Suito sprocket / bearing damage

Dear,
When replacing the sprocket, I noted some particles falling out of the bearing/axel shaft. With a closer look, I noted that the sprocket connection was severely damaged and small pieces of metal are everywhere inside the axel shaft. I don't think it's possible to re-assemble the sprocket and I'm sure it's not a wise idea as it could only cause more problems.
What is the root cause and can this be fixed? I particularly worried about the metal shrapnel inside the Elite Suito trainer axel shaft.
Krgds,
Jesse
